Parish Religious Education Program (PREP)
First Confession
When we receive the sacrament of reconciliation, we reconcile our lives with God. By confessing our sins, saying we are truly sorry, asking God for forgiveness, and joyfully accepting his forgiveness, we have accepted God’s gift of a new beginning. Our sins are forgiven! Children usually prepare for the sacrament of reconciliation in second grade.
Below is the Act of Contrition the children will learn. Please encourage them to practice it at home.
ACT OF CONTRITION
My God,
I am sorry for my sins with all my heart.
In choosing to do wrong
and failing to do good,
I have sinned against you,
whom I should love above all things.
I firmly intend, with your help,
to do penance,
to sin no more,
and to avoid whatever leads me to sin.
Our Savior, Jesus Christ,
suffered and died for us.
In his name, my God, have mercy. Amen
First Communion
The Eucharist is the center of our Catholic faith, instituted by Jesus during the Last Supper. At every Mass, we come together as a community and witness Jesus’ sacrifice of himself as proof of his great love for us. When we receive the Body and Blood of Christ in the consecrated bread and wine of the Eucharist, we are intimately united with Jesus and blessed with his grace and strength.
Once a child has made their first confession, they are ready to prepare for First Holy Communion.
